YouTube the Petone vibe

The Petone Community Board started uploading video clips to YouTube at the start of the year, and architect of the online exposes, Mason Branch, says promoting the area in his spare time is a worthwhile pursuit. “It’s nothing political really, I’m just capable of doing some videos about the area and it helps to show off what’s going on here,” says Mr Branch. His latest video covers the Petone based artist Alfred Memelink’s participation in the Splash 6 watercolour exhibition at Shed 11. The clip has attracted around 100 views. “It was a little amateur clip about an artist living in Petone. “I like to make little clips about things around the Korokoro, Petone and Moera areas, it’s good to cover the board’s area,” he says. Another video interview he uploaded, with acrylics painter Angus Walker, attracted over 400 views. Meanwhile the Community Board has been successfully raising funds for Samoa's Red Cross disaster relief fund. “We fundraised $1,800 a couple of weeks ago, and will hold a fundraising concert on December 5 for the recently devastated Asian nations,” Mr Branch says. Lower Hutt’s large Pilipino community are supporting the event, and funds will do to the Red Cross, that are assisting in the Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam after a large typhoon wrecked havoc in the region. The concert and BBQ will be held on Britannia Street, Petone Central School, 3 – 5pm, December 5.
